Fig. 3 – Published by the Portable Antiquities Scheme, this image depicts a key of medieval London made in c. 1150 and used to both lock and unlock caskets. Formed from a copper-alloy, its shape and design were similar to those used to open chests at this time, such as the Guildhall common chest.
